A 10-year-old girl suffered serious burn injuries after an air hostess allegedly spilled hot beverage on her onboard Delhi-Frankfurt Tata Vistara flight. The family accused that the airline did not apologise for the incident, and they were left alone in an ambulance in the German city. However, the airlines has claimed to have followed all norms and protocols after the incident.
“Air Vistara air hostess causes 2nd degree burn to 10-year-old on flight to Frankfurt. An unfortunate accident poorly handled. Vistara hostess didn’t apologize, captain or crew members didn’t apologize. After basic first aid on flt my daughter and I were left in an ambulance,” shared the girl’s mother on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“We were left to fend for ourselves (pay for ambulance / navigate the German medical emergency services) in an unfamiliar environment . Our luggage had to be taken out by friend of a friend who made 3 trips to the airport and spent 4-5 hours pillar to post,”she tweeted.
Gupta said that she had to pay 503 Euros for the ambulance and the subsequent hospital expenses. The family also missed their connecting flight. She alleged that the airline did establish contact with her, albeit only after her social media post gained traction.
A representative from Vistara stated that a regrettable incident took place on flight UK25, from Delhi to Frankfurt on August 11, 2023. During the flight, a child suffered injuries due to an accident involving spilled hot beverage. The cabin crew had served hot chocolate to the child upon the parents’ request, but unfortunately, the child’s playful behavior led to the unintentional spilling of hot water, causing harm.
The spokesperson of the airline further said that they have assured the customer that any medical expenses resulting from the incident will be covered by the airline. They are in ongoing communication with the customer, offering additional assistance as needed. The airline is also in the process of evaluating and improving their procedures as necessary to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Their top priority remains the safety and well-being of their customers.
